What is it?

PM Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) is a central sector scheme launched in February 2019. It provides ₹6,000 per year — in 3 equal instalments of ₹2,000 — directly into the bank accounts of all eligible landholding farmer families through DBT. As of 2025, over 11 crore farmers have received over ₹3.5 lakh crore.

Benefits

₹2,000 every 4 months (April–July, August–November, December–March), DBT directly to Aadhaar-linked account, no middleman, no application fee, used freely for any farm input — seeds, fertiliser, equipment.

Eligibility criteria

  • Must be an Indian citizen and a landholding farmer family (husband, wife, minor children)
  • Land must be in the farmer's name as per state land records
  • No upper limit on land area — even 0.01 hectare is eligible
  • Excluded: institutional landholders, constitutional post holders, serving/retired government employees (Group A/B), pensioners with pension > ₹10,000
  • Excluded: income tax payers in the last assessment year
  • Excluded: professionals (doctors, engineers, CAs) who practise
  • Land bought after 1 Feb 2019 not auto-eligible (succession allowed)

Documents required

  • Aadhaar card (mandatory — no alternative)
  • Bank account passbook (Aadhaar-seeded, DBT-enabled)
  • Land ownership document — khatauni / khasra / pahani / patta
  • Mobile number (for e-KYC and status checks)
  • Citizenship/residence proof if asked by patwari

How to apply — step by step

  1. Visit pmkisan.gov.in or nearest CSC
  2. Click 'New Farmer Registration' and choose Rural/Urban
  3. Enter Aadhaar, mobile, state — verify with OTP
  4. Fill landholding details, upload khatauni
  5. State officer verifies; status moves to 'Approved'
  6. Complete e-KYC (Aadhaar OTP, biometric at CSC, or face auth via PM-KISAN app)
  7. Wait for installment; check 'Beneficiary Status' on the portal

Important dates

Continuous registration — no last date. Instalments roughly every 4 months. e-KYC is mandatory before every installment; without it, payment is held.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Skipping e-KYC — most common reason for stopped installments
  • Bank account not Aadhaar-seeded or not DBT-enabled
  • Land record name mismatch with Aadhaar name
  • Income tax filer in family — entire family becomes ineligible
  • Not updating land details after partition or sale

Frequently asked questions

How do I check my PM Kisan installment status?

Go to pmkisan.gov.in → 'Know Your Status', enter registration number or Aadhaar + captcha. It shows last installment, payment mode, and any holds.

Is e-KYC mandatory for every installment?

Yes. e-KYC must be valid before each installment. Use Aadhaar OTP on the portal, biometric at CSC, or face authentication via the PM-KISAN app.

Can tenant farmers get PM-KISAN?

No. Only landowning farmer families are eligible. Tenant or leased-land farmers are excluded unless they own land elsewhere.

What if my installment is stuck?

Common causes: e-KYC pending, NPCI/Aadhaar bank seeding pending, name mismatch, or land verification pending. Check status, then visit your CSC or block agriculture office.

Will I lose eligibility if I file ITR?

Yes. Income tax payers in the previous assessment year are excluded. The entire family loses eligibility for that year.
